Conditions We Treat

What we treat immediately.

If you're experiencing any of the following, call us right away. Same-day appointments are held specifically for urgent situations like these.

02

Tooth Abscess

A dental abscess is a bacterial infection that can spread to your jaw, neck, and beyond. This is a true medical emergency — don't wait.

03

Lost Crown or Filling

A lost crown or filling exposes vulnerable tooth structure. Sensitivity and decay can develop quickly — we can often re-cement the same day.

04

Cracked Tooth

Cracks can be invisible yet cause sharp, unpredictable pain. Early diagnosis and treatment is the difference between saving and losing the tooth.

05

Severe Tooth Pain

Pain that wakes you up, won't stop, or throbs constantly signals something serious. Over-the-counter medication masks it — we treat the cause.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth can often be saved if you act within an hour. Pick it up by the crown, store it in milk, and call us immediately.

First Response

Before you come in.

Whatever your emergency, these steps apply while you're on your way to us or waiting for your appointment.

01 Step 01

Call us immediately

Dial (469) 759-6964 right away. Even a brief call lets us prepare a room, alert the team, and give you specific first-aid guidance for your situation before you arrive.

02 Step 02

Don't ignore the pain

Dental pain is your body's signal that something is wrong. Waiting or masking pain with medication allows infections to spread and simple fixes to become complicated ones.

03 Step 03

Basic first aid while you wait

Rinse gently with warm salt water. Apply a cold compress (20 minutes on, 20 off) to reduce swelling. If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist in milk or saliva. Don't take aspirin and place it directly on gum tissue — it can cause a chemical burn.

04 Step 04

We'll get you in same day

We hold same-day appointment slots for emergencies. You will not be told to wait a week. Walk-ins are also welcome — calling ahead simply reduces your wait time.

Know the Difference

Emergency room or dentist?

This is one of the most common questions we get — and the answer matters, because the ER can't treat your tooth, and the dentist can't treat a medical emergency.

ER

Go to the emergency room if you have:

  • Facial swelling affecting your breathing or swallowing
  • Difficulty opening your mouth (trismus)
  • Fever over 101°F with swelling spreading toward your neck
  • A jaw fracture or significant facial trauma
  • Uncontrolled bleeding that won't stop after 15 minutes of pressure

These can indicate a spreading infection or structural injury — a medical emergency first, dental emergency second.

Us

Call Minty Smiles for:

  • Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
  • Severe or persistent toothache
  • Knocked-out tooth (call us within the hour)
  • Lost crown or filling — especially if painful
  • Dental abscess without systemic symptoms
  • Soft tissue lacerations inside the mouth

The ER can prescribe pain medication and antibiotics but cannot fix the underlying dental problem. You'll still need to see us — and the sooner, the better.

Questions

The things everyone asks.

What counts as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, a lost crown or filling causing pain, a dental abscess, or trauma to the face or jaw. If something feels urgent, call us — it's always better to check.
Do you take walk-in emergency patients?
Yes. We welcome walk-in emergency patients whenever the schedule allows. Calling ahead at (469) 759-6964 even a few minutes before you arrive lets us prepare a room and significantly reduces your wait time.
What if my emergency happens after hours?
Call our number at (469) 759-6964 and listen for after-hours instructions. For life-threatening emergencies — facial swelling affecting your airway, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding — go to the nearest emergency room immediately. For everything else, call us first thing in the morning for a same-day appointment.
Will my insurance cover emergency dental care?
Most dental insurance plans cover the emergency exam and X-rays, and often a portion of the treatment itself. We'll verify your benefits before beginning treatment and provide a written estimate so there are no surprises. Patients without insurance can ask about our Minty Membership Plan for significant savings.
